M.V.Marton Emperor

Access and Assistance for Reduced mobility Passengers

Marton Emperor provides passenger tripping services from Foulridge Canal Wharf and other locations from time to time. The vessel was purpose built in 1981 to accommodate up to 50 passengers for short trips from 1.5 to 3.5 hours duration.

The vessel complies with the legislation defined by the Department of Transport and is regulated by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Reduced mobility means those people with physical disabilities, speech, hearing or sight limitations and those with mental health problems. It also includes the elderly and parents with young children.

The Company supports access and assistance for reduced mobility passengers to Marton Emperor wherever practicable and safe. However, the vessel was built in 1981 and was never designed specifically to accommodate such passengers. Furthermore the design and provenance of the vessel does not lend itself to adaption.

Marton Emperor has the following limitations for people with reduced mobility:

A high freeboard at the entrance with 5 steps down into the passenger cabin. It is not possible to lower a wheelchair down into the cabin.

Small toilet facilities.

Fixed seating.

Mindful of the above, the following policy shall be applied to accommodating Reduced Mobility Passengers on the Marton Emperor:

  1. The Company shall make available to the public it’s Reduced Mobility Policy in the Company Terms and Conditions applicable to local tripping excursions.
  2. Passengers with any special needs must be accompanied by a personal carer.
  3. The Captain and Crew where possible will make every reasonable effort to assist reduced mobility and special needs passengers.
  4. Where the Captain considers that such passengers may be at risk in an emergency situation then the Captain has the right to refuse passage.
